International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL)

Description

The ICDL is the world’s leading end-user computing skills certification programme and is an internationally recognized qualification. The ICDL syllabus is designed to cover the key concepts of computing, its practical applications and their use in the workplace and society in general. The ICDL certification is broken down into modules. An test must be passed for each module before an ICDL certificate is awarded. The syllabus is designed by a panel of experts which is managed and co-ordinated in conjunction with the ECDl. The syllabus includes regular updates incorporating the advances in technologies and practices, so as to remain constantly relevant in the industry.

The ICDL syllabus is presently being mapped to SAQA qualification No 49077 and the foundation is accredited as an Assessment Centre with ISETT Seta.

Entrance Requirements

This course enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills. No prior knowledge of IT or computer skills is required to study ICDL.

Course Outline

The ICDL Core Certificate comprises of the following:

  •  The basic concepts of IT
  •  Using the computer and managing files.
  •  Word Processing
  •  Spreadsheets
  •  Databases
  •  Presentations
  •  Information and Communication

Examinations and Assessments

There are 7 exams to be completed, one for each module. At present the exams are being charged at R 100.00 per module and are written at the University of Fort Hare. For groups of 5+ examinations can be organised on-site at the CCS IT campus.

Learning Materials

Registered students will receive their ICDL training manual as well as a logbook which records progress through the qualification process. As the test for each module is passed, the Accredited Test Centre will sign off that particular module in the logbook.
